Fun Kids Chinese
The WingSpan™ Method

Helping students move from confusion to confidence in Chinese.

At Fun Kids Chinese, our teaching approach is guided by the WingSpan™ Method: a student-centered approach designed especially for children growing up in English-dominant environments.

Many students struggle with Chinese not because they lack ability, but because they lack clarity, structure, and confidence.

The WingSpan™ Method helps students move from confusion to confidence by combining:

Reassurance and encouragement in a language they are comfortable with
• Careful
diagnosis of learning gaps and differentiated pathways
Structured frameworks that make the language manageable

English may be used as a scaffolding tool when helpful, allowing students to connect new Chinese concepts with what they already understand.

Over time, students discover that Chinese is not something to fear , but a skill they can master step by step.

Helping students change how they see Chinese,

and how they see themselves.

The Three Pillars of WingSpan™

Reassurance

Many children develop anxiety about Chinese after repeated frustration.

WingSpan™ lessons begin by creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment, helping students rebuild confidence and believe they can succeed.

When students feel safe to try, they become more willing to engage and learn.

Diagnosis & Differentiated Pathways

Each student’s starting point is different.

Through observation, exercises, and structured practice, we identify specific learning gaps that may be holding the student back, whether in vocabulary, sentence structure, composition or comprehension.

Understanding the root of the difficulty allows learning to be targeted rather than repetitive.

Structured Learning Frameworks

Instead of relying on memorisation alone, WingSpan™ teaches students clear frameworks and techniques that help them organise and apply what they learn.

These structures allow students to:

• understand how the language works
• connect ideas more clearly
• apply their learning confidently in exams and real communication.

Curriculum Design Principles Supporting the WingSpan Method

KNOWLEDGE ESSENCE

Instead of overwhelming students with excessive memorisation, we focus on the essential patterns and principles behind the language.

Students learn how Chinese works through meaningful examples, guided practice, and real-life application. By understanding the core ideas behind vocabulary, sentence structures, and expressions, students are able to remember and apply what they learn more effectively.

This approach encourages deeper understanding rather than short-term memorisation of one million and one possible exam answers!

BRAIN WORKS

Learning is most effective when it works with the brain, not against it.

Our curriculum is designed to help students acquire, organise, and retrieve knowledge in ways that support long-term understanding. Lessons are structured so that new concepts build naturally on what students already know, making learning more manageable and less overwhelming.

Through guided practice and repeated exposure, students gradually strengthen their ability to understand, recall, and apply the language with confidence.

LEARNER-CENTRIC

Every child’s learning journey is unique, and students often begin with different strengths and gaps.

Where helpful, we use English as a scaffolding language to bridge understanding, especially for students from English-speaking homes who may need clearer connections between English and Chinese concepts.

Our programmes are designed with differentiated learning pathways. Students can participate in regular tuition sessions while also attending modular workshops that focus on specific areas of difficulty.

This flexible structure allows each learner to receive targeted support while progressing steadily at their own pace, ensuring meaningful understanding rather than rushed coverage.

FUTURE READY

Chinese is not only a school subject, it is also a valuable life skill.

Beyond preparing for examinations, students learn how to think, express ideas clearly, and communicate confidently in Chinese. Through comprehension, composition, and oral expression, learners develop the ability to organise their thoughts and share them meaningfully.

These skills support not only academic success but also lifelong communication and cultural understanding.

HOME-TEACHER PARTNERSHIP

Learning is most effective when home and teacher work together.

Fun Kids Chinese supports parents through clear communication, learning guidance, and resources that help students reinforce their learning at home.

This partnership ensures that children receive consistent support, helping them grow steadily in confidence and ability.

From Method to Mastery

Learning Adventure Journey Roadmap_edited_edited.jpg

The WingSpan Adventure Learning Journey

Guided by Fun Kids Chinese and supported by parents

The WingSpan™ Method comes to life through a structured learning journey across different learning worlds, each focusing on a key aspect of Chinese language mastery.

From Hanyu Pinyin Magical Land to Oral Expression Arena, students develop listening, reading, thinking, writing, and speaking skills step by step.

Because every student begins at a different point, the journey is not strictly linear. Students may revisit different learning worlds depending on their needs, allowing personalised and differentiated learning pathways.
